Premiere magazine - May 2006 issue p. 68
starring Karl Urban, Moon Bloodgood, Clancy Brown, and Russell Means; directed by Marcus Nispel (July 14)
"For the longest time, everyone's gone with the notion that Columbus effectively discovered America, but they forgot about the Vikings, who were there [centuries] before," says Urban (Doom), who plays a young Norwegian shipwrecked off the coast of the New World at an early age and reared by Native Americans. When his blood relatives return and being a full-scale slaughter of the natives, Urban's character, named Ghost by the Indians for his pale complexion, must prove himself in battle to his adopted people. "Every American has his or her legs rooted in at least two different cultures," says director Nispel(the Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake). "In this way, Ghost is kind of like the first American." THE LOIN KING: Nispel says he experienced a kind of "divine nervousness" watching his star perform most of his own stunts in the woods near Vancouver, where the film was shot. "They were reluctant to let me do it, but I'm in the best shape I've ever been in my life," says Urban. "I kind of had to be; my outfit for the first half of the movie is a bit Tarzan."
